Ingredients

  • 2 cups of glutinous rice
  • 3 dried shiitake mushrooms

  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 cups of water

  • Wok or large frying pan

Method

  1. Soak the glutinous rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain it.
  2. Soak the dried shiitake mushrooms and dried shrimp in warm water for 20 minutes, then drain them.
  3. Cut the Chinese sausage into small pieces.
  4. In a small saucepan, heat the vegetable oil and saute the minced garlic until fragrant.
  5. Add the Chinese sausage and continue to saute for another minute.
  6. Add the dried shrimp and dried shiitake mushrooms and continue to saute for another minute.
  7. Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and salt to the pan and mix well.
  8. In a large mixing bowl, mix the cooked ingredients with the glutinous rice until evenly combined.
  9. Transfer the mixture into a steaming basket and spread it out evenly.
  10. Pour 2 cups of water into a wok or large frying pan and bring it to a boil.
  11. Place the steaming basket on top of the wok or frying pan and steam for 30 minutes.
  12. Remove the steaming basket from the wok or frying pan and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  13. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve.

Notes

  • You can substitute the Chinese sausage with bacon or ham.
  • Make sure to drain the soaked ingredients thoroughly before cooking.
  • Do not overcook the rice as it will become mushy.
